Northlight

Privacy policy

How this demo site handles the little personal data it collects, written the way a real publication's policy should be: plainly.

Last updated

This policy covers Northlight, a demonstration publication. A real site publishing on the theme replaces this page with its own policy, reviewed by its own advisers. We have written it to be accurate for the demo and as a model of the clarity a real policy should have.

What we collect

Reading the site does not require an account, and we do not use advertising trackers. Like any website, our servers receive technical information with each request, such as your IP address, browser type and the page you asked for. This is used to deliver pages, protect the site from abuse and keep it running, and is not used to build a profile of you.

If you sign up for the newsletter, we store the email address you enter, the date you signed up and the page you signed up from. We do not send emails from the demo site.

Cookies

The site sets a cookie only if you choose a colour theme, so that your choice is remembered on your next visit. Editors who sign in to the content system receive a session cookie that keeps them signed in. We do not set cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking.

How long we keep it

Technical request logs are kept for a short period for security and troubleshooting. Newsletter signups are kept until you ask us to delete them or the demo data is reset, which happens from time to time without notice.

Your choices

  • Ask us what information we hold about you.
  • Ask us to correct or delete your newsletter signup.
  • Clear the theme cookie at any time through your browser settings.

To make any of these requests, use the contact page. We will respond within thirty days.

Changes

If we change how the site handles personal data, we will update this page and the date at the top of it.
